Hyundai launches 2017 VernaAugust 22, 2017
Hyundai on Tuesday launched the 2017 Verna at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh for petrol and Rs 9.19 lakh for diesel. The company said these are introductory prices for first 20,000 buyers.
The fifth-generation Verna features several new design elements including a cascading front grille, projector and cornering head lights, projector fog lamps and LED tail lamps on the outside. The length, wheelbase and trunk space has also been increased although the height remains the same. The 16-inch diamond-cut alloys further enhance the looks.
On the inside, the car now comes with ventilated front seats – a first in this segment. A seven-inch infotainment system with IPS display on the top end now comes equipped with MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A rear AC vent and electric sunroof is also on offer.
Powering the new Verna are the same – albeit refined – 1.6 Dual VTVT petrol and the 1.6 VGT diesel engines. The petrol has a power output of 123 Ps and 15.4 KGM of torque while the figures for the diesel stand at 128 Ps and 26.5 KGM. The company claims the fuel efficiency has also gone up – petrol automatic to 15.92kmpl, petrol manual to 17.70kmpl, diesel automatic to 21.02kmpl and diesel manual to 24.75kmpl. The company further claims that the NVH levels are best in the segment.
The car is based on what Hyundai has dubbed the K2 platform and has a stronger body.
Speaking at the launch, YK Koo – MD and CEO, said that the new Verna seeks to combine comfort and performance in an attractive package to appeal to the Indian market.
“A futuristic design, smart connect, super body structure, and superior dynamics is on offer for the new-age aspirational customer,” he said.
Offered in seven colour options, the Verna will continue to take on the Ciaz from Maruti Suzuki and the Honda City.
