8 coaches of the Meerut-Lucknow Rajya Rani Express derailed today near Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, leaving 12 people injured. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced Rs 50,000 ex-gratia for each of the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 ex-gratia for each of the injured.
Eight coaches of the Meerut-Lucknow Rajya Rani Express derailed today near Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place at 8:15 am.
KK Choudhary, SP, said 12 people were injured – three of them seriously – but added that no casualties had been reported yet.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced Rs 50,000 ex-gratia for each of the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 ex-gratia for each of the injured.
The Railways, too, announced ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Medical teams are on the spot, and the DRM, Muradabad, is supervising operations, Neeraj Sharma, CPRO, Northern Railway, said
He added that there was an alternative track that could be used, and that railway traffic had been affected due to the crowd.
Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted that he was personally monitoring the situation, and that he’d directed senior officers to rush to the spot. He added later that an enquiry had been ordered, and promised strict action in the case of “any lapse.”
SECOND TRAIN DERAILMENT IN A MONTH
This is the second train derailment in less than a month’s time in Uttar Pradesh. On March 30, eight coaches of Mahakoshal Express derailed on the stretch between Kulpahar and Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh, leaving at least 25 people injured
Four AC coaches, one sleeper class coach, two general coaches and a luggage coach of the Mahakoshal Express, which runs between Jabalpur and New Delhi, derailed around 2.30 am.
The train derailed moments after it left from the Mohoba station.
